Sawyer was selected from more than 27,000 franchisees, representing more than 300 brands that participated in Franchise Business Review’s research in the past 18 months.

The Rock Stars recognized were nominated by their franchise brand leadership as franchisees who set admirable examples when it comes to leadership, business acumen, financial and professional success, and contributing to their community.

“There are so many deserving franchise owners out there who are achieving their dreams of business ownership through franchising,” said Michelle Rowan, president & COO of Franchise Business Review. “It was incredibly difficult to narrow down the list, but in the end, we chose individuals who exemplify the qualities that make the franchising model work: a strong work ethic, leadership, and a real commitment to their business and community. Each one of them is truly a franchise Rock Star.”

Since joining Sport Clips Haircuts as a franchisee in 2012, Sawyer has grown her business to 21 stores in Florida and Virginia, with her 22nd location opening later this year. She credits her success to embracing the business model offered by the brand, along with focusing on strategic growth as well as providing a positive, nurturing work environment for her employees.

“Debra is an exemplary franchisee both in how she has consistently grown her business and in the leadership and opportunity she provides her team members,” said Gordon Logan, founder and CEO of Sport Clips. “As a working single mother of two children, she’s in a position to connect directly to the mostly female staff who work for her and provide guidance and mentorship to them, as well as professional and financial opportunity.”

“I am very excited and grateful to be named a franchise Rock Star,” said Sawyer. “While I am proud of my success as a Sport Clips franchisee, I’m even more proud of the opportunities I’ve been able to provide for my team members to support themselves and their families. It’s also important to me to be part of a brand that cares about its community through multiple philanthropic partnerships and about its team members through the Wayne McGlone Memorial Relief Fund, which provides financial assistance to Sport Clips team members when tragedy strikes.”
