No. 19 Sport Clips Toyota Camry News and Notes

  • TRUEX AT NEW HAMPSHIRE: Martin Truex Jr. has earned six top-five finishes and 12 top-10s in 26 career NASCAR Cup Series starts at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. He has finished seventh or better in his past five starts at the track. Last season, Truex ended up sixth despite suffering damage in a mid-race accident. While he has not visited victory lane in Cup Series competition at the one-mile oval, Truex’s 744 laps led are his most at a track he has yet to win at.
  • LOUDON WINS: Truex picked up three victories at New Hampshire Motor Speedway during his ascent up the NASCAR ranks. In 2000, he claimed the pole award and led all 101 laps on the way to his first victory in the NASCAR East Series. Three years later, Truex once again won the pole and led 108 laps en route to his fifth career NASCAR East Series triumph. He also won the NASCAR Xfinity Series event at the track in 2005 after outdueling Carl Edwards and Denny Hamlin in the closing laps.
  • KANSAS RECAP: After starting fifth, Truex led five times for 44 laps before ultimately finishing third in last week’s race at Kansas Speedway. The result was his fourth top-five finish of the season and his second in the past three races.
  • LOW DOWNFORCE PACKAGE: Truex won the most recent points-paying race utilizing the low downforce, 750-horsepower aero package that the NASCAR Cup Series will race this Sunday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. His victory at Martinsville Speedway in June was the third race with the low downforce aero package this season.
  • LOOP DATA RANKINGS: While sitting seventh in the NASCAR Cup Series standings, Truex ranks in the top five in multiple statistical categories, including green flag speed (second), fastest drivers late in a run (second), fastest on restarts (third), fastest drivers early in a run (third), fastest laps run (fourth), percentage of laps run on lead lap (fourth), laps in top 15 (fifth) and laps led (fifth). He has also accumulated the fourth-most stage points this season.
  • SPORT CLIPS: Sport Clips will be featured as the primary sponsor of Truex’s No. 19 Camry for Sunday’s race in New Hampshire. The sports-themed haircutting franchise based in Georgetown, Texas is a longtime supporter of Joe Gibbs Racing and will be partnered with Truex and JGR drivers Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, and Erik Jones this season. Sport Clips, which has more than 1,850 stores in the United States and Canada, is ranked by Forbes as “Best Franchise to Buy” in the medium investment category and was named a 2020 Top Franchise by Franchise Business Review.
  • JGR AT NEW HAMPSHIRE: Joe Gibbs Racing owns 11 NASCAR Cup Series victories at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Altogether, the organization has amassed 45 top-five finishes, 71 top-10s and 3,030 laps led in 124 combined starts at the one-mile oval. Last season, JGR drivers combined to lead 235 of 301 laps and all finished eighth or better at the track. Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Matt Kenseth, Joey Logano and Tony Stewart have all taken JGR to victory lane in New Hampshire.
  • TUNE IN: Coverage of the NASCAR Cup Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway begins Sunday at 3 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Network, PRN Radio and Sirius XM NASCAR Radio.

Talk about going to Loudon for the first low downforce race in more than a month…

“Loudon is a great track when you hit it right. We’ll have to see exactly how the PJ1 affects the lanes we have to work with. It’s going to be different with no other series racing before us, so I don’t think anyone really knows exactly how that will affect the PJ1. Track position is going to be important either way and strategy will play a factor in the way the race plays out like we typically see at Loudon.

“I’ve been happy with the direction we’ve been going lately. Our speed has been solid every week. Obviously, that has been mostly with the 550 (horsepower) package, but I feel pretty good with how we have raced with this package in the few races so far this season. We’re starting to come up on some more tracks here in the second half of the season with this package, so it’s important that we learn what we can this week and try to keep carrying that momentum as we head towards the Playoffs.”
