Haircuts With Heart Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the Sport Clips Help A Hero Scholarship Program?

In partnership with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), our scholarship program provides service members and veterans with financial support of up to $5,000 that can be used toward tuition and fees as they work to complete academic or technical degrees.

  • What was the inspiration for starting this program?

The founder of Sport Clips Haircuts, Gordon Logan, is an Air Force veteran, so he’s always been a big supporter of veterans, and this was a way to give back and really help veterans who are transitioning back into civilian life. The program began in 2007 and provided free phone calls home for service members who were stationed overseas, but Gordon and Sport Clips wanted to do more, so in 2013, in partnership with the VFW, the scholarship program was launched.

  • What kind of impact has the Help A Hero scholarship program had so far?

Sport Clips and the VFW have awarded more than 3,500 scholarships totaling more than $16 million, making a direct impact on numerous veterans and their families by eliminating the need for student loans or additional debt to pursue their educational careers.

  • What kind of degrees are being pursued?

The scholarship covers traditional colleges and universities, plus technical and trade schools, so we see a variety of fields of study, but the top are engineering and computer science, business and accounting, and healthcare.

  • How does Sport Clips fund these scholarships?

That’s the great thing about this – the scholarships are funded by the generosity of our Clients and our vendor partners. We host in-store fundraisers every fall and we ask our Clients to donate to this cause and support our nation’s heroes. They come through for us every year.

  • When will you host the campaign for this year?

Our 2026 fundraiser will run in Sport Clips stores across the country from October 5 through November 15. Last year we donated $1.22 million to the VFW.

  • And you all do something special on Veterans Day, November 11, correct?

Yes – participating Sport Clips stores offer free haircuts for veterans and service members on November 11. In addition, as part of our “Biggest Haircut Day of the Year,” participating stores donate $2 from every paid haircut to the Help A Hero Scholarship program.

  • How can people find out more about how to apply for a scholarship?

Just visit sport-clips-dot-com-slash-hero for information about the program and how to apply. Applications are accepted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). Application dates for the fall semester are January 1 through April 30 and dates for the spring semester are August 1 through November 15.
